Set 1 · November

Pythagoras & Circles Assessment

3 questions · 7 marks

Print this set

  1. Q1

A right-angled triangle has shorter sides of 6 cm and 8 cm. Find the hypotenuse.

    2 marks
    Show solution

    Solution

    6² + 8² = 36 + 64 = 100; √100 = 10 cm.

  2. Q2

Find the circumference of a circle with diameter 14 cm (use π = 3.14).

    2 marks
    Show solution

    Solution

    C = πd = 3.14 × 14 = 43.96 cm.

  3. Q3

A ladder 5 m long leans against a wall. Its foot is 1.4 m from the wall. How far up the wall does it reach?

    3 marks
    Show solution

    Solution

    5² − 1.4² = 25 − 1.96 = 23.04; √23.04 = 4.8 m.

Set 2 · May

S2 Pathway Assessment

4 questions · 9 marks

  1. Q1

    Expand and simplify 3(2x + 5) − 4x.

    2 marks
    Show solution

    Solution

    6x + 15 − 4x = 2x + 15.

  2. Q2

    Share £420 in the ratio 3 : 4.

    2 marks
    Show solution

    Solution

    7 shares; £420 ÷ 7 = £60; £180 : £240.

  3. Q3

A car travels 150 km in 2 hours 30 minutes. Find its average speed.

    2 marks
    Show solution

    Solution

    150 ÷ 2.5 = 60 km/h.

  4. Q4

    Solve 5(x − 2) = 3x + 8.

    3 marks
    Show solution

    Solution

    5x − 10 = 3x + 8; 2x = 18; x = 9.
